Compare the Martha Stewart Kids' Storage System and the EdQ 5-Section Locker with Bench to find the best fit for your child's room, play area, or classroom.
Quick Answer
Choose the Martha Stewart Kids' Storage System if you want a flexible, open workspace that blends living and learning areas. Choose the EdQ 5-Section Locker with Bench if you need durable, easy-to-clean storage for a classroom or high-traffic play area.
Design Philosophy: Open vs. Structured
The Martha Stewart Kids' Storage System is part of a collection that pioneers the concept of a child's home office space. It's designed to bridge living and learning spaces, encouraging kids to create, collect, and curate. This system is open and flexible, making it ideal for a dedicated kids' room or a corner of a family living area.
In contrast, the EdQ 5-Section Locker with Bench is built for early childhood classrooms, homeschools, and play areas. It provides structured, individual storage with a bench, promoting order and routine. This makes it a better fit for shared spaces where each child needs their own designated spot.
Material and Maintenance
The EdQ locker is made from premium birch plywood and is available in white or natural finishes. It's described as easy-to-clean, which is a key advantage in high-traffic environments like classrooms or playrooms where messes are inevitable.
The Martha Stewart Kids' Storage System focuses on quality materials and uniquely designed storage solutions, but specific material details are not provided. If you prioritize easy cleaning and durability, the EdQ locker's explicit easy-to-clean feature is a strong point.
Price and Value
The Martha Stewart Kids' Storage System is priced at USD 389.97 (compare at USD 599.95), while the EdQ 5-Section Locker with Bench is USD 300.77 (compare at USD 469.95). The locker offers a lower entry price, which might be a deciding factor if you're outfitting a budget-conscious space.
However, the storage system's higher price reflects its focus on creating a flexible, inspiring workspace. Consider what matters more: a lower upfront cost or a more versatile, design-forward piece.
Trade-Offs to Consider
- Space Flexibility: If you need a system that adapts to different uses and encourages open-ended play, choose the Martha Stewart Storage System. If you need defined, individual storage, choose the EdQ Locker. Assess how your child uses the space daily.
- Durability and Cleaning: For high-traffic areas where spills and messes are common, the EdQ Locker's easy-to-clean birch plywood is a practical advantage. The Martha Stewart system's materials are not specified, so its cleaning ease is unknown. Consider your tolerance for maintenance.
- Budget: The EdQ Locker is more budget-friendly at USD 300.77, while the Martha Stewart system costs USD 389.97. If price is a primary concern, the locker offers savings without sacrificing durability. Weigh the extra cost against the design benefits.
